How to Connect te Fire Alarm System to the CO2 Monitoring System

Addressable Fire Alarm Systems

If it is an addressable system, one dual monitor module (or two single monitor modules) will need to be furnished and installed.

The dual monitor module will be programmed as follows:

  • The alarm side of the module will be programmed as a dispatchable alarm signal, with the description: CO2 High.

  • The supervisory side will be programmed as a non-dispatchable (local reporting only) supervisory signal, with the description: CO2 Low.

The monitoring company will need to be notified to update the monitoring descriptions accordingly. It is critical that the monitoring station reports the signals as CO2 High and CO2 Low (or Carbon Dioxide High/Low).

Incorrectly reporting these as CO (Carbon Monoxide) will result in a failed city final. The system must also not report these as just β€œAlarm” or β€œGeneral Alarm,” since those trigger a fire department response. A CO2 alarm dispatches a hazmat team, not a fire engine.

We will work with you the day the module is installed and programmed to identify the install location and assist with functional testing.

For the final with the AHJ, we will need the monitoring phone number, account number, and password (if required) so we can place the system in test and confirm signals. Please notify us of the scheduled installation date as early as possible to ensure availability.

Conventional Fire Alarm Systems

If it is a conventional system, two separate zone circuits will need to be providedβ€”one for each CO2 signal type:

  • The CO2 High alert shall be connected to a zone programmed as a dispatchable alarm signal, clearly labeled as CO2 High (or Carbon Dioxide High).

  • The CO2 Low alert shall be connected to a zone programmed as a local, non-dispatchable supervisory signal, labeled as CO2 Low (or Carbon Dioxide Low).

The monitoring company must be contacted to confirm that signal labels are reported correctly. The signals must be listed as CO2 High and CO2 Lowβ€”not CO, and not just β€œAlarm” or β€œGeneral Alarm,” as that will trigger the wrong emergency response.

We will assist during the installation to confirm zone wiring locations and perform a functional test of both inputs.

Before the final inspection, please provide the monitoring phone number, account number, and password (if applicable) so the system can be put into test mode and signals can be verified.

Please provide advance notice of the installation date so we can schedule accordingly.
