Why Did I Receive a Prelien Notice?
In Arizona, Preliminary 20-Day Notices (preliens) are required for most fire alarm, CO2 monitoring, and life safety system projects. This page explains why you received a prelien notice from Global Systems United and what it means for your project.
A Preliminary 20-Day Notice (commonly called a prelien) is not a lien, and it does not mean there is a payment issue or a lack of trust.
In the state of Arizona, sending a prelien is required by law (A.R.S. ยง 33-992.01) for most contractors, subcontractors, and material suppliers. This includes companies working under a general contractor, through a developer, or even directly with the property owner or end user.
We want to be very clear:
This notice is not personal, it is not a threat, and it does not mean we distrust you. It is simply a legal requirement to preserve our right to file a lien later โ only if payment is ever withheld.
Even when everything is going perfectly and all payments are on time, Arizona law still requires this notice to be sent within 20 days of first providing labor, materials, or equipment.
We send prelien notices as part of our standard and responsible business practice on nearly every qualifying Arizona project. It is about following the law โ not about trust.
If you have any questions about the notice, we are happy to walk you through it.
