βš–οΈ Why Annual Inspections Are Required

Under current national fire and mechanical codes, COβ‚‚ and gas detection systems, as well as fire alarm systems, are required to be inspected and tested at least once every 12 months. This is not optionalβ€”it’s a code-mandated life-safety requirement.

πŸ”Ž COβ‚‚ & Gas Detection Systems

IFC Section 916.11 – Annual Testing Requirement
β€œInspection and testing of gas detection systems shall be conducted not less than annually. Sensor calibration shall be confirmed upon installation and performed at the frequency specified by the sensor manufacturer.”

IFC Section 5307 – COβ‚‚ Systems in Beverage Dispensing
Requires operational permits and inspection of COβ‚‚ detection systems for restaurants, bars, and beverage facilities.

NFPA 55 – Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids Code
Requires verification of alarms, ventilation, and safety systems for stored COβ‚‚ tanks or gas cylinders.

Bottom Line: If you have a COβ‚‚ or gas detection system, you are required to have it inspected annually.

πŸ”” Fire Alarm Systems

NFPA 72 Chapter 14 – Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance
β€œThe inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems shall be conducted in accordance with this chapter and the manufacturer's instructions.”

IFC Section 907 – Fire Alarm and Detection Systems
Requires systems to be maintained in an operable condition and tested at regular intervals to ensure reliability.

NFPA 101 – Life Safety Code
Ensures that fire alarm systems are properly maintained to support safe evacuation and occupancy.

Bottom Line: If your facility has a fire alarm system, annual inspections are required to remain in code compliance and to avoid fines or enforcement actions from your local fire marshal..
