Subject: Formal Request for Assistance with Phoenix-area Fire Department HAZMAT Training Importance: High This is a formal request for your organization’s assistance with the required regional hazardous materials training provided to all metro fire departments operating HAZMAT Teams on the Phoenix automatic aid system. This upcoming training topic concerns Bulk CO2 systems in use in Phoenix and surrounding municipalities. The training will be held at Location #1: Gilbert Fire Dept. Skill Center 701 N. Monterey St. in Gilbert for the following dates: June 6th, 13th, and 20th (9:00am-4:00pm daily, except June 6th, which will be 9:00am-12:00pm only) July 11th, 18th, and 25th (9:00am-4:00pm daily) Location #2: Phoenix Fire Department Special Operations 2430 S 22nd Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009 for the following dates: June 13th, 20th and 27th (9:00am-4:00pm daily) July 7th, 11th, 18th, and 25th (9:00am-4:00pm daily) August 1st and 8th (9:00am-4:00pm daily)
We hope that you can assist us in providing for the safety of the community and protecting the public at large by partnering with us in this important training for first responders. We would like to request a representative from your organization to explain how these systems operate, the location and function of components/gauges, any leak detection systems and how to operate/interpret them, the location and operation of emergency shut off valves/pressure relief devices, common points of failure and how to troubleshoot/ isolate them, measures to take if a CO2 storage tank is damaged, hazards that can occur during a filling procedure (Cryogenic and/or pressure -related) and how to resolve them, and anything else that you believe would assist the fire department in responding to possible incidents of this nature.
